Madison College is hiring a Veterans Services Manager.  This position provides leadership in the veteran and military-connected student services unit, including development and implementation of a comprehensive veteran student experience and administration and delivery of veterans' educational benefits, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. Success in this role involves overseeing administration of services and programs, managing financial reconciliation, and handling escalated student concerns to facilitate access to educational resources. This position contributes to institutional goals by advocating for student success, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and implementing equitable policies that enhance service delivery and regulatory adherence.

This is a full-time, salaried (exempt) position scheduled for 52 weeks per year.
department service hours are:

  • Monday and Tuesday: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday through Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

 

This role offers a hybrid work option, with a minimum expectation of three (3) in-office days per week. Remote work flexibility is subject to change based on Madison College policy.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Leads, supports and develops teams to ensure accountability of institutional objectives and operational excellence. This includes effective deployment of human resources practices such as inclusive hiring, performance management principles, development opportunities and employee support.

  • Contributes and engages in budgetary, financial and procurement decisions that ensure fiduciary responsibility while meeting operational and institutional goals.

  • Coordinates efforts across departments such as Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Student Support Services, and Technical Services to develop a comprehensive, military-friendly service model that streamlines student access to resources and strengthens academic and personal outcomes.

  • Serves as the institutional subject matter expert on federal and state VA policies and procedures; facilitates exceptions when necessary to ensure equitable treatment of military-connected students while maintaining regulatory compliance.

  • Administers Department of Veterans Affairs funds by ensuring accurate allocation, reconciliation, and reporting of expenditures in collaboration with student financial aid and other departments, resulting in compliance with funding regulations and optimized financial stewardship.

  • Leads the successful completion of federal, state, institutional, and system-wide audits and reports by overseeing data analysis, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and implementing process improvements that enhance audit readiness and program integrity.

  • Provides strategic oversight of financial, academic, and support services for veteran and military-connected students to drive retention, enhance belonging, and foster a supportive campus environment aligned with institutional student success goals.

  • Participates in cross-functional project groups and coordinates with institutional departments to build a comprehensive service model that enhances the experience and success of veteran and military-connected students.

  • Leads the Veterans Services unit by supervising staff, facilitating training and implementing best practices that optimize service delivery and regulatory compliance.

  • Creates an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively lead and supervise staff in a collaborative, team-based environment to achieve institutional objectives.

  • Ability to make sound operational, management and financial decisions that support institutional goals, budget accountabilities and an effective work unit.

  • Knowledge of military educational benefits, academic advising principles and student support services for military-connected students to ensure accurate certification and regulatory adherence.

  • Knowledge of financial aid administration, expenditure reporting and reconciliation processes related to funding.

  • Skill in interpreting and applying complex regulations to support institutional compliance and resolve conflicts between state and federal benefit policies.

  • Skill in supporting military-connected students by providing guidance on educational benefits, eligibility requirements and financial aid processes.

  • Ability to collect, analyze and use student data to implement retention strategies, assess program effectiveness and recommend service improvements.

  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, institutional leadership and student support services, to enhance services for veterans and military students.

  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.

  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. An Associate’s Degree may be considered with equivalent additional work experience.

  • 3-5+ years of relevant, professional, and progressive work experience, including leadership experience.
