The Veteran Services Coordinator serves as the University's designated School Certifying Official (SCO) and is responsible for the administration, certification, and compliance of federal and state veteran educational benefit programs. Serving as the primary liaison to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), State Approving Agency (SAA), Department of Defense (DoD), and other regulatory agencies, this position ensures the University remains compliant with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies governing military and veteran educational benefits.

The Veteran Services Coordinator provides comprehensive advising and support to veterans, military service members, spouses, and dependents by guiding them through educational benefit programs, certification requirements, and enrollment processes. Working collaboratively with the Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Academic Advising, and Veteran, Military and Adult Student Services, this position ensures timely certification, accurate reporting, and coordinated services that promote student success from admission through graduation.

This position is responsible for maintaining institutional compliance through accurate certification processing, monitoring enrollment changes, maintaining audit-ready records, and developing standardized procedures that support consistency, operational efficiency, and regulatory readiness. The Veteran Services Coordinator continually monitors changes in federal and state regulations and implements updates to institutional practices to ensure ongoing compliance and effective stewardship of veteran education benefits.

Beyond compliance responsibilities, the Veteran Services Coordinator contributes to the University's commitment to serving military-affiliated students by managing the VA Work-Study Program, supporting recruitment and orientation initiatives, collaborating with campus and community partners, and coordinating programs and events that foster engagement, belonging, persistence, and academic success across the Whitewater and Rock County campuses.

This position reports to the Director of Veteran, Military and Adult Student Services.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Administer and certify federal and state veteran educational benefits while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Serve as the University's primary School Certifying Official and liaison to the VA, State Approving Agency, Department of Defense, and other external agencies.
  • Advise veterans, military service members, spouses, and dependents regarding educational benefits, certification requirements, and available resources.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor enrollment changes, complete required reporting, and prepare documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
  • Develop and maintain certification procedures, operational documentation, and internal controls that promote consistency and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage the VA Work-Study Program, including student employment processes and communication with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Collaborate with university departments and external partners to support recruitment, orientation, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Coordinate veteran and military-affiliated student programming, outreach, and engagement activities that strengthen community and enhance the student experience.
